While the General Mental Ability (G+) test measures your IQ, candidates should first master the NZDF G+ test before progressing to Mechanical Comprehension preparation. This course is specifically designed for candidates entering technical trades—Auto-Technicians, Engineers, Pilots, and Navy Divers— where a “Class A” or “Class B” score isn’t just a bonus, it’s a requirement.

What’s Included in the Masterclass?
Our 2026 NZDF curriculum covers the five “High-Failure” zones identified in recent SHL Verify
batteries.
Module 1: Advanced Gears & Power Trains
Learn to calculate more than just direction. We cover gear ratios, “Idler” gear influence, and complex gear trains where torque is amplified or reduced.
• The Goal: Instantly identify the rotational speed and direction of the final gear without drawing diagrams.
Module 2: The Law of the Lever & Equilibrium
Master the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class levers. We move beyond simple seesaws to analyze industrial tools, wheelbarrows, and crane mechanics.
• The Goal: Calculate the “effort” required to lift a load at different distances from the fulcrum.
Module 3: Pulley Systems & Mechanical Advantage
The NZDF loves “Block and Tackle” systems. We teach you how to count the number of supporting ropes to instantly determine the mechanical advantage.
• The Goal: Determine if a weight is being lifted or lowered based on the tension and direction
of the rope.
Module 4: Fluid Hydraulics & Pneumatics
Understand how force is transmitted through liquids and gases. We cover Pascal’s Principle, pipe diameter influence, and the behavior of pistons under pressure.
• The Goal: Predict the movement of heavy machinery based on small hydraulic inputs.
Module 5: Thermodynamics & Applied Physics
Brush up on heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation), the behavior of gases under pressure, and the “refraction” of light through different mediums—critical for Navy and Air Force roles.

Our course includes a “Ready for Assessment” Diagnostic. We won’t tell you to sit the real test until our software confirms you are scoring in the Top 15% (A-Grade) of your norm group.
