What Is ADF Additional Testing?

ADF Additional Testing is used to assess candidates applying for aircrew and aviation-related roles within the Australian Defence Force. This multi-component assessment is designed to evaluate the cognitive skills required to perform effectively in high-pressure aviation environments.

As part of the ADF aircrew testing process, candidates are assessed across four key areas:

Aircraft Orientation: Visualise and track aircraft movement in three dimensions
Instrument Reading: Interpret aircraft instruments accurately under time pressure
Spatial Awareness: Mentally rotate and manipulate objects in space
Estimation Maths: Complete fast, approximate calculations in time-sensitive scenarios

Course Introduction

Welcome to the ADF Additional Testing Preparation Course, designed specifically for candidates preparing for aircrew roles in the Australian Defence Force. This self-paced ADF aircrew testing course helps you develop the advanced cognitive, spatial, and problem-solving skills required to succeed in the Aircrew Additional Testing stage.

Across four learning modules, you’ll strengthen your abilities in aircraft orientation, instrument interpretation, spatial awareness, and estimation maths through targeted exercises, realistic simulations, and expert guidance.

Typically completed over four to six weeks, this ADF aircrew additional test preparation program includes interactive examples, practice questions, and simulation exams that reflect the structure and demands of the official assessment.

How Is This Test Different from the JOA?

Unlike the JOA, ADF Additional Testing is benchmarked and ranked. Before reaching this stage, candidates first complete the Job Opportunities Assessment, which forms the foundation of the ADF recruitment process. Candidates are assessed not only against a minimum standard but also against the performance of other applicants.
