ADF Officer Entry: Your Leadership Pathway Guide

If you plan to join ADFA or a Type C, D or E role, you fall under the Officer entry category.

Officer Entry Stream Recruitment Process for the ADF

The ADF officer entry pathway is designed for candidates seeking leadership positions within the Australian Defence Force. Unlike the General Entry stream, officer applicants are responsible for leading teams, managing resources, and making decisions in high-pressure environments across the Navy, Army, and Air Force.

The ADF officer application process includes additional stages beyond the standard recruitment journey. Depending on your preferred role, you may complete supplementary aptitude testing following your ADF YOU Session, attend an Officer Selection Board (OSB) after your Assessment Day, and, for aviation roles, participate in the Aviation Screening Program (ASP). These assessments help Defence identify candidates with the skills and potential required for ADF leadership roles.

Pilot applicants follow a specialised ADF officer career pathway that includes additional aviation assessments before progressing to the OSB. While ADF officer entry requirements vary by role, all candidates must meet education, medical, fitness, and security standards.
