ADF Pilot Pathway: Requirements and Selection Process

The recruitment process for aspiring ADF pilots closely follows the ADF Officer Entry pathway, with additional assessments designed specifically for aviation candidates. If you’re exploring how to become a RAAF pilot, it’s important to understand that pilot applicants complete extra aptitude testing before Assessment Day. This additional testing takes place at your local ADF Careers precinct and includes online assessments focused on spatial awareness, mathematics, and aircraft instruments. Your ranked results play an important role in determining whether you progress through the RAAF pilot selection process. Following Assessment Day, candidates attend the Aviation Screening Program (ASP) in East Sale, Victoria. You can familiarise yourself with this stage by completing our Free Aviation Screening Program Practice Test. This two-day assessment evaluates your suitability for the ADF aviation pilot pathway and determines whether you receive a recommendation to proceed to the Officer Selection Board as a pilot or mission aircrew candidate.
