Free NZDF General Mental Ability (G+) Practice Test

The Gateway to Your NZDF Career

The Verify G+ (General Mental Ability) test is the most critical hurdle in the NZDF application process. Whether you are aiming for the Army, Navy, or Air Force, your score on this 36-minute assessment determines which trades and officer roles are open to you. Learn more about the NZDF officer pathway if you’re pursuing a leadership role.

Inside the Verify G+ Battery

The NZDF assessment consists of three distinct modules. You will have 36 minutes to complete
30 questions (10 per module).

1. Deductive Reasoning (Logic & Rules)

This module tests your ability to reach a “must-be-true” conclusion from provided facts.

• The Challenge: You’ll be given schedules, calendars, or seating arrangements with incomplete rules. You must deduce the only possible outcome.
• Why it matters: It predicts your ability to follow complex orders and plan military logistics.

Practising NZDF deductive reasoning questions can help you improve your speed and accuracy before test day.

2. Inductive Reasoning (Abstract Patterns)

This is a non-verbal test of your problem-solving speed.

• The Challenge: You are shown a sequence of shapes and symbols. You must identify the underlying pattern (rotation, color change, or movement) and predict the next image in the series.
• Why it matters: It measures how quickly you learn new systems and adapt to unfamiliar environments.

Regular NZDF inductive reasoning practice can improve your ability to recognise patterns under time pressure.

3. Numerical Reasoning (Data & Maths)

This is not a simple “sums” test; it’s a test of data interpretation.

• The Challenge: You will be presented with charts, graphs, and tables. You must extract the relevant data and perform multi-step calculations (percentages, ratios, and averages) to find the answer.
• Why it matters: It ensures you can handle technical data under pressure.

Consistent NZDF numerical ability prep can help you build confidence and improve your problem-solving skills.

The "Three-Strike" Rule: Why You Can't Wing It

The NZDF is stricter than the ADF when it comes to failure. According to the 2024 NZDF Aptitude Guide, you have a lifetime limit of three attempts.

• Attempt 1 Failure: 3-month mandatory stand-down.
• Attempt 2 Failure: 12-month mandatory stand-down.
• Attempt 3 Failure: Permanent disqualification from most roles.

24.6% of applicants fail to meet the required cognitive standard. Don’t let your application end before it begins.

Because the number of attempts is limited, completing NZDF practice tests before your assessment can help you approach the process with greater confidence and maximise your chances of success. Continue your preparation with our NZDF GMA Masterclass for comprehensive training.

What Our Client Say

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of questions are included in the NZDF GMA test?

The assessment typically includes deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, and numerical reasoning questions. These question types are designed to measure how well you analyse information, identify patterns, and solve problems under time pressure.

How can I prepare for the NZDF aptitude test?

The best way to prepare is by completing realistic practice questions, improving your numerical skills, and becoming familiar with timed reasoning assessments. Regular practice can help you build confidence and identify areas that need improvement.

What happens if I don't pass the NZDF GMA test?

If you do not achieve the required result, you may need to complete a stand-down period before retaking the assessment. Because the number of attempts is limited, preparing thoroughly before your first test can improve your chances of success.

How much time do I get to complete the NZDF GMA test?

The assessment is completed online under supervised conditions and includes strict time limits. The duration of each section may vary, so practising under timed conditions can help you improve your speed and accuracy.
