ADF JOA Course: Expert Preparation for the ADF Aptitude Test

The ADF Job Opportunities Assessment (JOA) is a timed, multiple-choice aptitude test designed to assess your cognitive abilities and suitability for a wide range of Australian Defence Force roles.

The assessment includes 51 questions to be completed within 20 minutes, covering numerical, verbal, and abstract reasoning skills. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, so making educated guesses is recommended rather than leaving questions unanswered.

Our ADF JOA course provides structured guidance, realistic practice exercises, and proven strategies to help you approach the assessment with confidence. As part of your ADF JOA preparation, you’ll learn how to manage your time effectively, identify question patterns, and improve your overall performance.

Calculators are not permitted during the assessment; however, pen and paper may be used for working out.

Numerical Reasoning Module for ADF JOA Preparation

This module focuses on building your skills in solving quantitative problems:

  • Word Problems: Learn to break down real-world situations and apply basic math to find solutions.
  • Number Matrices: Identify patterns within grids of numbers and apply logical reasoning to complete them.
  • Number Lines: Work with sequences and positions on a number line to understand number relationships.

Verbal Reasoning Module for ADF JOA Preparation

This module enhances your ability to process and understand verbal information:

  • Logical Deduction: Practice analysing statements to draw accurate conclusions.
  • Word Comparison: Differentiate between similar words and identify key differences.
  • Word Analogies: Understand relationships between pairs of words and practice solving analogy problems.
  • Categorization Analysis: Group words or concepts based on shared characteristics and identify outliers.

Abstract Reasoning Module for ADF JOA Preparation

This module sharpens your visual and spatial reasoning skills:

  • Non-Identical Pairs: Identify differences between shapes that are alike but not identical.
  • 90 Degree Spin: Learn to rotate shapes mentally and recognize how their orientation changes.
  • Translating Patterns: Follow how patterns shift or move, predicting their next position.
  • Internal Features: Analyse internal elements such as lines or shading that form part of larger patterns.
  • Number of Internal Elements: Recognize how internal elements relate to the structure of the outer shape to find patterns.

By the end of this course, you will be well-prepared to tackle each section of the ADF JOA. The course includes topic and module tests to track your progress and full simulation tests to prepare you for the real assessment.

Here is the training continuum for the aptitude course:

1. Immediate Access: Upon purchasing the training course, you’ll instantly gain access to our Client Only Area, where you can download the Maths E-book, complete the online training modules, and take all the simulation aptitude tests.

2. Online Training Modules: The online training modules should take around 16 hours to complete. You can work through these at your own pace, breaking them up and returning whenever you want.

3. Simulation Aptitude Tests: After completing the online modules, you’ll proceed to take ten simulation aptitude tests, also available in the Client Area. These tests can be completed a few days after finishing the training presentation to keep you refreshed leading up to your JOA.

4. Mentor Support: During or after the online modules, you’re encouraged to contact one of our experienced mentors with any questions you have. They will also offer personalized feedback to help you further improve your aptitude test scores.
